The boy claims that he was tortured and ill-treated to confess to offences he did not commit. He is at risk of an unfair trial based on his “confessions” obtained under torture. If convicted he could face up to 15 years imprisonment.

Good News! - Disappeared Man Freed from Secret Detention (Ukraine: UA 180/16)


Dmytro Koroliov was released on 2 August after spending one year in secret detention in the Security Service of Ukraine compound in Kharkiv, northeast Ukraine. At least 12 others were also released from secret detention between 25 July and 2 August.

Shafik Rehman is a well-respected journalist who is currently the editor of the monthly Mouchake Dhil magazine.

On 19 August, the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals granted a stay of execution to Jeffery Wood, who was scheduled to be executed in Texas on 24 August. He was sentenced to death in 1998 for a murder committed during a robbery of a convenience store in 1996. He was sitting in a truck outside the store when the murder took place.
